EAST RUTHERFORD Doug Kotar Color Rush Jersey , N.J. (AP) — the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. The Giants said Wednesday that Collins has a partially torn labrum and will need surgery. Collins was not in the locker room before the practice to comment. An All-Pro in 2106 and a two-time Pro Bowler, Collins was hurt in Sunday's overtime win against the Chicago Bears. He left the game late in the first half after assisting on a tackle against halfback Tarik Cohen. He returned at least twice in the second half and has 96 tackles."Landon displays what he is, he's a very tough guy, very good tackler, he's made a lot of plays for us, especially close to the line of scrimmage," coach Pat Shurmur said of Collins' season. "I've said it numerous times, in a sport where toughness is required, he's got a lot of it, so that's what I appreciate about him."Collins has led the Giants in tackles in each of his first three seasons. His contract expires after this season. The second-round draft pick in 2015 has started 60 of the team's 61 regular-season and postseason games. He missed the 2017 season finale after fracturing a forearm."It (stinks) not having my guy next to me, but it's a next-man-up league, so that's what we got to do Curtis Riley Color Rush Jersey ," fellow starting safety Curtis Riley said. "It's going to feel a little funny, but that's my guy, so I got to do it. We got to do it."Veteran Michael Thomas and rookie Sean Chandler probably will share Collins' workload on Sunday."Obviously we're going to miss him, but it's an opportunity for young guys to step up, our new guys to step up," said Thomas, who had five tackles Sunday."You don't just replace a guy like LC, two-time Pro Bowl player, All-Pro safety. You don't just replace that, so that's my brother, we're going to ride for him."Chandler, who had one tackle against the Bears Calvin Munson Color Rush Jersey , said he would be ready.Chandler was an undrafted free agent out of Temple. He played in the NFLPA bowl game in January and was coached by Thomas, who signed with the Giants as a free agent in the offseason."He has always tried to give me the inside scoop and way I can do things better," Chandler said of Thomas. "He has always told me to work hard and he still does that." Shepard says he knows leadership responsibility comes with new deal"As the New York Giants announced his four-year contract extension, Sterling Shepard said he understands the deal he signed Friday comes with responsibilities as he is now the team’s longest-tenured wide receiver.“I’m ready,” he said in a statement released by the team. “With Odell going down the last two seasons (with injuries), that time definitely helped me get a grasp of what being a leader is all about, and being that lead guy in the room. I think it prepared me for this moment. I was pretty vocal anyway. I’m a pretty vocal guy. That will be no problem.“I’m no longer a young guy. I’m a vet now. This contract says a lot, so I’m going to handle it the right way.”The 26-year-old has a year remaining on his rookie contract, meaning he is now signed for the next five seasons.“I’m just excited,” Shepard said. “An opportunity to be in such a great place for another five years, it’s a blessing. I’m looking forward to this opportunity. I’m not going to put so much weight on my shoulders. I’m just going to attack every day like I have been.”Odell Beckham Jr. is in Cleveland, but the rest of the Giants receivers room will look familiar. It will include Cody Latimer Michael Strahan Color Rush Jersey , Bennie Fowler, Corey Coleman, Jawill Davis, Alonzo Russell, Brittan Golden and Russell Shepard.“We have no shortage of talent,” Shepard said. “Those guys are ballers and they can get the job done. When they’re put in that position, they’re always going to execute. I have all the trust in those guys. I feel we’re going to pick up right where we left off. The last five games were the best games we played in the season. We just have to fine-tune some little things. Once we do that, we’ll be fine.”The Giants begin Phase 1 of their offseason program on Monday.
